Peter, I have a Jobu surefoot lens plate which has a "Curved non-removable hard-stop prevents rotation of lenses" (quoted from Jobu website) With this plate there is no way that the plate will rotate. I can tell you from experience with the 300/2.8 that there is no way this plate will rotate providing you butt it up against the end of the tripod foot as required. What's more I never knew the screw to even un-tighten one iota (probably because rotation was impossible). I kept my plate on even when hand carrying with a BR strap, that way you could quickly go from hand carrying on the strap to mounting on a tripod without having to keep messing around with the lens plate.

Thanks for the info Roy, I suspect I might have the same (well a very similar) plate as mine has a bit that butts up against the lens foot... But it still works loose, I suspect that there might be an issue with the screw so I'm going to try a new one when I can get hold of one. Out of interest do you still use yours Roy? If not I might be interested in buying it off you as I could do with another plate or two.

I did have a play with one in a shop today and the difference didn't seem huge, but meeting up and trying one in the field would be great.

I still use mine sometimes with the BWG and 400/5.6 (big overkill but it saves me buying another set-up). |

A little late I know but good luck with your new lens Peter.
I recently got the new Canon 2X converter MkIII. I am very pleased with it. |
