Attenborough is my local as well, as I live in Chilwell, I bet our paths have crossed and we never knew. I have often heard the Cettis and once had a quick glimpse of one but have never actually had what I would class as a confirmed observation.

Also I often read the Clifton Grove website, even have a stroll over there from time to time, the owner of it really does see some fantastic birds, he must have alot of time to do this hobby.

I bet I have seen you before then. I'm really unmistakable! Can usually be found with my camera by my side and bins, oh and I'm 14, and I've never seen another birder there that age.

Purple Sandpiper still present at Kilvington on the West Lake yesterday evening between 1700-1800. Associating with 2 Little Ringed Plover which had just arrived that afternoon apparently. Cracking bird!

Moulting ad Black-necked Grebe still present at Kingmill Res and showing well though light too crap for pics. Some stunners taken while I was as school by others. Also others had the (fairly) regular Jack Snipe early morning on Sailing Club Marsh and a Wheatear in the paddock on the other side of the main road.

Hey Sam, was that you that asked us about the Grebe tonight (me with scope, son with glasses, my dad with walking sticks)?

Glad you saw it, it was a lovely looking bird albeit not quite in full summer regalia!

That was it! Relocated it in the bottom corner of the res. Came close enough for pics but unfortunately the sun was behind the bird. Quite scruffy wasn't it!

Spotted Redshank stiil present this afternoon (7.30) at Kilvington on West Lake. Also 2 stunning Garganey nearby on the Grantham Canal at Bottesford but just over the border in Leicestershire, along with 2 elusive Great Grey Shrikes just down the road (Plungar) which evaded our grasp.

I wouldn't say it was amazingly early but it is very early. I had my first Willow Warbler in Lenton today

Hello everyone in Notts area, I wondered if anyone has any sightings of Black Redstarts in N Notts? My mother, who lives in the area, is sure she's seen a pair on two different occasions. Not having found any mention of them locally, could any of you help? Any info greatfully received.

marsh harrier seen over attenborough clifton pit yesterday afternoon. I saw it but it was distant and brief and i only got it down to 'harrier sp', but then when i got back to the carpark it had appeared on the latest sightings board. 3 ruff still on tween pond, and a common sandpiper on clifton pit.

Lucky you! Have been down there almost every day these last two weeks and the day I don't go Marsh Harrier and Little Gull were seen! Marshie would've been a patch tick too! Haven't seen a Common Sand' there for a while either. Other sightings from the last few weeks include a male Ring Ouzel (a very short-staying bird that I also didn't see), Wheatear and LRP.

Sam

PS: I can't really complain as I was watching a BW Stilt in Leics instead!

Unlucky! Went down to Attenborough as it was an Inset Day. Loads about! The Little Gull (1st winter) was seen by others while I had 2 Common Sands (Barton Flash and Clifton Pit), the 3 Ruff, at least 2 Arctic Terns on Coneries, Reed Warbler, Sedge Warbler and Common Whitethroat. Howeverthe best bird of the lot was a stunning male Ring Ouzel on Branshill viewed from the Attenborough side of the river (sorry mate ). If the weather stays as it is I'd imagine they'll all be still around tomorrow.

See http://www.cliftongrovebirds.co.uk/l...sightings.html for details of Notts' 3rd ever Whiskered Tern, at Long Eaton GP's yesterday (it spent a lot of its time in Notts' airspace).
