Around 30 feeding Manx Shearwater off Rumps Point this morning plus a steady passage SW approximately 100 per hour. One unfortunate exhausted Gannet with fishing net trailing from neck, only able to fly short distances before crash landing, unable to feed just sitting on the sea getting weaker.

Late evening walk from Guineaport to commissioners quay and back, birds included several redshank, and the spotted redshank. Pauline and I watched an otter swim up river from the town bridge, catch and eat a large fish at Guineaport and continue on up river. Thats got to be better than sitting at home in front of the telly!.

Spotted Redshank
I attach a couple of distant shots of a cracking summer plumaged Spotted Redshank that is on the River Camel at the moment.
Unfortunately its companion Redshanks are very skittish and it doesn't want to pose for photographs for very long! Adrian. |

A lagre number of Herring gulls, about 200, are using the field next to 'Nine Maidens' near Winnards Perch this week. Easily viewed rom the layby on the A39. The field is full of sheep so presume that they are the reason for the gulls presence.

With none seen at Exminster or BGM today, presumably you got one and the other two are (or were?) up here.

Just off patch.
I have been sent a couple of pictures of a Gannet sat on islands off Beeny Cliff. There has been rumours for a number of years of a single bird in this area during the summer months but this is the first confirmed record. If anyone else has any information, please forward. Best wishes,
