I had a quick look through a mate's Kowa 501 20x on Scilly this year and was sufficiently impressed to be likely to get one - light enough to carry anywhere and small enough to fit in a pocket - and dead cheap which is good in a second scope. (My Zeiss 85mm absolutely knackers my shoulder - just getting too old.)
Looking at one last week, it was mounted in the shop on a short monopod with a three-claw base about 200mm across - too short to be practical except in a hide though (and we don't have too many of them in Bedfordshire). I wonder if anyone makes a similar full height monopod - a base of this type should make one slightly more stable and might also be able to double as a shoulder pod when not extended (though perhaps a full height one would be too long?). |
