Unkonown snake in Yellowstone

Sorry for lack of pic at present, got to disentangle it from a pdf.

What would something called a "Buffalo Snake" be? It is fat bodied and chequere-backed, looks about 5-6 feet long.

I'll illustrate if and when I can.

My guess would be Gopher Snake, specifically the Bullsnake subspecies.

Sounds like someone got Buffalo and Bull mixed up...never heard of buffalo snake before
