Fulufjället Gyrfalcon request for info

Does anyone know if the Gyrfalcons have nested this year at Njupeskär watefall? I am likely to be visiting this area in 2-3 weeks time and wondered if there was any chance of seeing them? I can't find anything on google more recent than last year so I am assuming that they might not be there this year, but any info would be good. I'll probably visit the waterfall anyway.

According to a Swedish facebook page they have nested there this year as well. There are three nestlings which are pretty big already now. I don't know then they are anticipated to leave the nest.

Thanks for that. I know I am going to be there a bit late in the year to guarantee a sighting, but fingers crossed that the young may remain in the nest area for a little while yet! If not, I'll enjoy the scenery!

I went there two years ago around midsummer. The chicks were then about 6 weeks old, and I think they left the nest soon afterwards.
However, the area is incredibly beautiful and well worth visiting even if you don't see any falcons. The walk up to the watchpoint over the waterfall is easy and in the forest there you can find Siberian Jay and Three-toed Woodpecker with a bit of luck.

Thanks Enji,

It is a family holiday so I will just have to take the birds as they come - anything that I don't usually see in Scotland will be a bonus! Certainly the waterfall looks very picturesque.

Hi,

For what it's worth, oogling for recently updated pages, it seems the juveniles are still around. Here are some pictures taken the last days (July 3/4). There is also a link how to contact the photographer, he might provide more information and answer your questions.

Thanks Tord

I'm in Stockholm at the moment - heading north tomorrow. The weather looks unsettled for the weekend so it might be Monday before I can get to Fulufjallet. We'll see what happens.

Bad weather delayed my visit to Fulufjallet until 11 July. I have added a report of the whole trip, including how I got on with the Gyrfalcons, here:
