Small raptor Namibia

Hello,

For this small raptor seen in Namibia, I think of the lesser kestrel female
Do you think I'm correct ?
Thank you
Cheers

It's not a Kestrel..ie..Iris is the wrong colour..unsure what it is, I have no knowledge regarding birds of that region! To my eye it looks not disimilar to a Short toed eagle..dunno.

cheers

I agree. Adult Greater Kestrel. The pale eye is diagnostic and also shows clean pale underwing.

That's my guess. I dipped on it when visiting the Little Karoo.

Most informative...Surprised that falcons can indeed exhibit a pale Iris! I certainly learned something new there. It got me wondering why the iris colour in this species is the exception rather than the rule and or are there any other falcons that have pale Irises?

cheers
