Kowa TSN 82SV
Recently traded for this spotter with the 25X LER eyepiece. For a wearer of eyeglasses this LER [32 mm er] is a Godsend. Can't say enough about it however I would like more power than 25X. How powerful can I go before I run into the "tunneling" effect? What is available out there for the Kowa? I fear the 20X60 zoom just knowing that I will be right back into the collision of ep to eyegalsses problem. Weight is not an issue.
Many thanx.........gary |

I think those exceptionally long eye relief eyepieces were only available in 25x and 27x magnification.
This shows the specs for the 45x wide (15mm eye relief) and the latest zoom (about 16mm) : http://kowa-prominar.com/product/spo...n600/index.htm Those are up-to-date, high performance and consequently pretty pricey eyepieces. Note that some earlier versions of compatible 20-60x zooms had much less eye relief and performed less well particularly at upper end of zoom. Here are scans that Digital Dingbat (aka Graham) has uploaded of some earlier Kowa brochures : http://s878.photobucket.com/albums/a...pes/?start=all |

Your Eyepiece is not precisely a WIde angle one,So You are not going to loose a lot of FOV upgrading to a Wide Field eyepiece of moderately higher power...
I use the 823 with a nikon 27X DS eyepiece, with a focal of 10.5mm ,that grants 42.5X and 64º AFOV..Is not tunnel like...the apparent Field of view is wide..Zooms are more likely of giving this tunnel effect in the low-medium part of its range, with 40-45º AFOV(Apparent FOView)...I used the Kowa 50XWA in a 824 ,a while bak,and was also pretty expansive view..Of course these Mid-High eyepieces get smaller slices of the view ,more noticeable at closer distances,,,. Even The 30X Wide ,with the 5x push, should give a small edge in resolution, just enough to catch some detail a bit more clearly than your 25X,and more likely will make the view through the 25X feel a bit restricted in comparison ... I tried ALL the rings, plumbing fittings, plastic caps, garden hardware etc that I found in the house(and a visit to the hardware store),and finally tried this cardboard ring that was the perfect match! ..I had to shave one mm here and there ,but the nikon fits tight inside and then It goes firmly pushed in the threaded socket of the Kowa. The remainings of the electrical tape were used for fit and finish...Its just temporary ,but works..I tied a safety string to the eyepiece and secure it to the scope, just in case...The eyepiece works great by the way..very nice ,useful magnification |
