Daylight calling by Tawny Owls

Hello,

I live just outside of Colchester, Essex, and I am collecting records of Tawny Owls calling in daylight. You may think I can't tell my Tawny Owls from my Robins, but for those who have never heard this, I can assure you it is not unusual for Tawny Owls to call in any month of the year, and especially around mid-day. Most surprisingly of all, is that they often call in bright sunshine. Usually it is hooting birds that call, but sometimes two or more birds, including a female(s).are involved.

If you hear any Tawny Owl calling I should be most grateful if you would let me know please. The details I require are Date, time, location, min. 4-figure grid reference, weather conditions, how many birds, hooting or 'kewicking', and any other information that you can provide. Duplicate records are welcome on an ongoing basis, as I can then obtain which months appear to be the best for this interesting phenomenon.

With many thanks for your anticipated help in this matter.

Jeff Martin

Hello Jeff, and welcome to the forum on behalf of the staff and moderators.
I think you might want to also post this in the forum for your county. You can find the UK & Ireland County by County forums here, I don't know enough about British counties to get you to the exact location.
