Terrapins for ID
I photographed these two terrapins at Grindale Mere, East Yorks, today. Not Red-eared or Yellow-bellied; can anyone help with the ID please?

They remind me of one of the US Painted Turtles (not to be confused with Painted Terrapin from Asia) although It's only a guess.
Interesting sighting for East Yorkshire.

Comparing internet images, they do appear to be Western Painted Turtles. Cheers Brett |

The head markings don't really match up for Painted Turtle. Those look to me like a species of cooter (Pseudemys), perhaps Florida Redbellied turtle (Pseudemys nelsoni).

With a little research I am leaning more towards Pseudemys sp. as suggested by Will.
Still a nice change from the Red-eared Terrapins that usually end up in our ponds.

Saw your Montenegro photos. What you did see sure made up for missing the Ursini's!

Might have to take a look myself now the sun is out. BTW I've asked a couple of US based reptile enthusiasts and they believe the turtles most likely to be P. floridana.

Got a photo of one of the Grindale Cooters today - was the consensus that they were Pseudemys concinna?
Didn't see the Red-ear though. Does anyone know of any other terrapins in Yorkshire/Lincolnshire? I know they are horrible and introduced, but I do like seeing them. |

Definitely a Pseudemys. To get a species id it would help to have some clear views of the shell markings.
