I am amazed that you revived a thread that had been dead for more than 6 years....how did you do that? I've had threads just over a year old and couldn't comment on them...and I started them.
Oh, and for the record I enjoy both red and gray foxes in my neighborhood. The reds boss around the grays, but they grays rule the trees.

I say feed foxes to PROTECT ourlivestock, NOT feeding a fox is NOT going to make it move to another area. Foxes follow the same path of hunting through generations, and the foxes you experience have lived around you for much longer than you have, they are timid, beautiful animals, just trying to make a way in the world like everyone and everything, have some respect for Gods creatures.
Hi - just found the site and read your comments gingerbinky - I so TOTALLY agree with you. I live in urban Melbourne (Australia) and have been feeding red foxes for years. As you have said, sadly most never live past 12 months and seem to die horribly from mange, road accidents, idiots with guns (we live near golf courses and someone shoots them) or snake bites. They are beautiful animals and never asked to come to Australia in the first place to try and fend for themselves in the harsh environment. I also feed a lot of native animals and have feeding stations built on the side of trees and fences for our possums. Sadly, possums do get attacked by foxes but not that often. I too figured that the more I feed them the less inclined they are to eat other animals. I feed them nightly (although my partner is not that keen on me doing so) and I give them meat (that I feed my dog and cats as I am vegetarian), dog biscuits, fruit and they love a jam sandwich (which I feed the possums). At the moment I have 3 cute little one's and a mother. Two of the little one's are ever so bold and sit at my front gate with faces peering in waiting for me as soon as it gets dark. I wish they were a little more wary as I have some nasty neighbours who HATE them and I'm afraid they may try and poison them or something bad.
I've been feeding them for about 20 years and have noticed that they never seem to hang around for longer than a year. Very sad. The only vermin on this planet in my opinion is humans. 6 billion humans and we kill over 56 billion animals a year for food. How greedy are we?
