Gone quiet on here lately, despite the period of (I'm assuming) good viewing conditions in March. Not much about? We're coming up in about two weeks time so would appreciate any up to date info.

Weather not looking too promising at the moment but we'll be in the area sometime after Friday lunch, I'm guessing. Are there any reasonably sheltered sea-watching spots where we can set up a scope or two?

Torry Battery, 20th April

Spent too long in the Cairngorms but got to Torry just after 17:00

17:05 - small cetacean, probably Harbour Porpoise
17:10 - 18:15 Bottle-nosed Dolphins - at least 5, more likely 7+ visible both in the harbour mouth and out in the bay.
Three signtings of Grey Seals.

Viewing conditions could have been worse.

We both saw one dolphin that appeared to have a pale 'flash' on its side below the dorsal fin. Nothing to suggest anything other than Bottle-nosed, though.

Torry 21st April

Half an hour at Collieston yielded nothing early afternoon.

At Torry,

16:00-17:15 several fairly distant and brief views of Bottle-nosed Dolphins. Probably no more than two at any one time.

Bottle-nosed Dolphins still pretty well guaranteed at the mouth of the Dee, Aberdeen.
Performing well last weekend.

saw a single Minke Whale below the cliffs at Troup Head on Saturday around 2pm - incredibly close views! Lots of rafts of birds in the distance so may have been more if I'd have looked with a scope

Cheers

Nice one. There were masses of Gannets diving on Mackerel (probably) at Rattray this morning but no sign of any Dolphins.

A single Minke Whale heading south off Girdle Ness this evening, only seen briefly before submerging again.

No sign of the humpback today from girdle ness but a large cetacean was seen from there on Friday so the humpback has probably been around for a few days.

Not quite as glamorous, but the bottlenoses appear to be back around the harbour after about a month or so away. About 12ish altogether, with at least 3 very small, still striped calves.
