Wood Sands are similar size to Sanderlings this bird looks bigger. Shouldn't a juv Wood Sand show a supercilium behind the eye? also the bill looks a tad strong. Is it a Redshank?

Wood Sands are significantly longer legged than Sanderlings as well as longer necked which can give a larger size impression.

The rear bird has prominent tertial and coverts notching and broad white fringing to the scapulars creating an overall spangled impression.

The breast, from what is visible, is mottled rather than streaked as in juv Redshank.

So all in Wood Sandpiper for me as well.

The bird in the background is a Wood Sandpiper indeed.
