Spoonbill RSPB Saltholme

Dropped into RSPB Saltholme yesterday. Viewed from Saltholme Hide.

Still around today though much more distant.

Canon 7D + Canon 400mm f5,6 + Canon 2x teleconverter + Canon 1.4x teleconverter.

Platalea leucordia is the scientific name and they are increasing as passage mmigrants in northern Britain with a few breeding records but a colony has become established in Norfolk in the last few years.

Regards

Most years we get one or two passing through this area, but not every year. This is only the second we've had locally this year. They stay a few days and then move on.

In 2011 one passed through this area that was colour ringed in the Netherlands in 2009 before moving to Spain in September 2009 and then not reported again until it turned up at RSPB Saltholme in 2011.
