Wink Imma callin' you out, Beeke!

Sure, you live on the coast and get to rack up dozens and dozens of waders, migrants, and what not...

Sure, you have more trees, nicer parks, better biome variations...

Sure, you have only logged a fraction of your trip reports on eBird.org...

But let the record show: your Liaoning species total is a but a puny fraction of mine!

Even though I live in a smoggy, over-urbanized concrete distopia... (Shenyang vs. Dalian)

Even though I can log more species in a day by counting birds in cages hanging from windows than by walking the riverbanks...

Even though I haven't really had time to bird in nearly two years...

I'm throwing down the gauntlet.

In 2013, in Liaoning, I will crush you.

(Seriously though, let us - and everyone else who can! - spend this year improving the eBird overage for our part of China yah? Only six people on eBird have ever filed a trip report within Liaoning! )

Great challenge! You do seem to be doing pretty well so far Andrew

I've been thinking about ebird, and got registered, but haven't started using it. It would be nice to have people putting up records there (though I understand if they are already posting to birdtalker -? - why they might not do both). I also know Tom's been putting his pictures up on OBC which is a great public service.

Looking forward to seeing the "competition"...

Wow. Shenyang (12, 920 sq. km, 51 outings for 75 species) really sucks! I might even beat you on the Magic Roundabout (about 0.01 KM, 30 visits for 45 species) at that rate Andrew!

And for a reality check on the health warnings of that air quality website, compare Hong Kong's "slightly polluted" status on your website with the Hedley Environmental Index, which uses WHO threat assessments and considers the air quality " very dangerous"!

Looking at the body count in Hong Kong (3 between midnight and 6am this morning), how any of you dudes (except for Dev, who's already in Bluetail heaven) in other mainland cities are still alive is a complete mystery!

Cheers
Mike

In my experience here in Shenyang, ten species at any given location is a "good" day. If you get above 15 you're having a stellar outing.

Mind you these totals include your Eurasian Tree Sparrows and Eurasian Magpies... so yes, you need to work for it here! :-)

In a former life I was a college teacher here. During one of my environmental classes I put photos of 50 species of birds I had seen in Shenyang on the screen. My students flat out didn't believe me. To them the only birds here are Picas and Sparrows...!

But those rare moments where you find a spoonbill, or a Taiga bean-goose, or a Chinese egret... well, you get pretty excited!

Wow!

Haven't been on birdforum for a while due to finishing up at work in advance of the 5 week holiday. I know I have a tough job......

I have been poked about ebird before and did register last summer. I had great ambitions of back-loading everything there but ran out of time.

Mr. Heath, can I give you my log-in information and watch you uplaod it all? You must be very good at it I'll stay in Dalian and see the birds, you stay in Shenyang and record my records in ebird?

Bei Ling Park should have more than 10 species! I've birded in there before while in Shenyang for an ice-hockey tournament.

Spoiled in Dalian,

Dong Bei
