Allbinos Review: Meopta MeoPro HD 10X42

Allbinos has posted a review dated Jan. 2, 2017 on the Meopta MeoPro HD 10X42.

http://www.allbinos.com/index.php?te...tki&test_l=311

My overall take from the review is it has a good center view but not so much toward the edges, considering the price.

Score is 128.8 out 0f 170
Light transmission is 83.4%

It does have a nice wide stated FOV for a 10X42 at 351 ft or 117 m and is on the lighter side at 25.2 oz or 715g.

Meopta USA site http://www.meoptasportsoptics.com/sh...nterestTopic=2

Here is current pricing from some US dealers:

$749.99 Optics Planet http://www.opticsplanet.com/meopta-m...inoculars.html

$799.99 Eagle Optics https://www.eagleoptics.com/products...0x42-binocular

$799.99 B & H Photo https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produ...binocular.html

Like anything from Allbinos, odd scoring of mostly irrelevant [for birders] criteria skew the final results. I've tried bins that have scored very high and not liked them and have experienced the reverse as well. Numbers don't always predict the actual view. I'm still grateful that [anyone] produces numerical tests like this for binoculars however.

I agree with James; Allbinos posts interesting tests, but their final results may not matter as much to birders as some of their individual tests.

Personally I own the 8x32 Meopro HD and consider it comparable to the Vortex Viper HD and Zeiss Conquest HD; it has its own specific traits, but I consider it a decent pair of binoculars. I'd use it more if I didn't own the 8x32 FL.

Thanks for the link, Bruce. It is an interesting read since I own the 8x32 version. Their result with the 10x42 is similar to my 8x32 as far as the soft edges, although to me the 8x32's soft edges seem to come from noticeable astigmatism (which they say is well corrected in the 10x42). I took note of their photo of the binocular which shows the objectives. From that camera angle, it looks like the objectives are fairly well recessed within the objective tubes. I'd hope that this would improve the glare control a bit versus the 8x32.

Really like my 8x32, only complaint from me is limited eye relief, I don`t wear glasses, but have to rest the cups under my brow which needs adjustment time when I`v been using my SV for a while.
