Swarovski 8x30 CL 4 mm exit pupil not 3,75. !!!

Hi, i measured the exit pupil diameter of the swarovski CL 8X30 companion. Is 4 mm but is supposed to be 3,75 mm. This lead to the only one conclusion: The real magnification is 7,5 x. I wonder if somebody else note this or my measuresment is wrong.

Hello Binomaniac,

I would not be surprised if your measurement proved correct.

Happy bird watching,

May be one of the reasons for such a surprisingly good image in an economy class binoculars: more light !

I have one of these binoculars. It is priced at $1079.00 and I have a problem putting it into the "economy" class! Although it doesn't bother me if its exit pupil measures 4mm.

I just measured the width of the objectives on mine as best I could with a steel ruler and I got about 28mm on the inside diameter. The outside diameter of the tubes is about 32mm. So no, it likely is not 32mm.

Biomaniac, post 1,
I have measured the objective diameter and the exit pupil of the CL 8x30 with the equipment designed for it and found the following values:
Objective diameter 30,4 mm
Diameter exit pupil 3,85 mm
Magnification 7,9 x

I think it would be interesting and even desirable if they used a true 7.5x eyepiece on the 8x30 and made it into a 7.5x30. Seems like it's close anyway at between 4mm and 3.75mm. I firmly believe that an 8X bin should truly mean 8x though if they're going to call it that.

Patriot, post 222,
It could be that you are a little bit confused, since when it was really an exit pupi of 3,75 mm (we measured 3,85 mm by the way), magnification with
3,75 mm exit pupil results in a magnification of = 30:3,75= 8x
With an exit pupul of 3,85 mm the magnification is: 30:3,85=7,8x
So there is no reason to name this binocular a 7,5x30.
