Not so Good Brandon

Just got back from Brandon this afternoon ... and all we got was this ...

Ruddy duck
Moorhen
Coot
Lapwing
Mallard
Common Tern
Grey Heron
Cormorant
Tufted Duck
Black Headed Gull
Mute Swan
Magpie
Warbler … of sorts but probably a reed or sedge warbler.

So where have all the birds gone then ... I knew the roads to the coast were supposed to chocka ... but surely not the bird flight-ways too

Ron

Hi Ron

I would expect a few of the commoner passage waders to be at Brandon at this time of year, but perhaps with the recent rain the water levels are too high?

I was at Kingsbury Water Park yesterday afternoon and saw similar species to you, but also there were a few Common and Green Sandpipers and a Dunlin about.

Plenty about on the Kent coast this morning at Oare including: common, green, wood and curlew sandpipers, plenty of ruff and dunlin.

S'cuse the iggorance, but where's Brandon?

I thought it was a patch of pine forest and heath near Thetford in Norfolk, good for Crossbills and Wood Larks, but not the sort of place with ducks, swans and terns.

Hi Michael

Brandon Marsh just east of Coventry, headquarters of the Warwickshire Wildlife Trust.

Well worth a visit for anyone in the area, but as with most sites probably at its quietest in June and July.

It certainly is quiet at the moment andy, and thanks for the word on Kingsbury too ... we were looking at going there next week sometime.
