Gull ID/ and Meadowlark ID.

This is one of THOUSANDS of these gulls I seen yesterday. Not sure what it is but it is rather common at a Lake in Nebraska. Pics #1 and #2.

And while I have you here, I thought I had a nice shot of a Western Meadowlark, but then now I am not sure if it is a Western OR an Eastern. Assistance will be greatly appreciated. Pics #3 and #4.

Thanks for any input.

-Drake.

Chances are the gull was a Ring-billed Gull if it was pretty common in Nebraska this time of year. And when I was near Kearney last spring we only found Western Meadowlarks, but that doesn't say much for these photos. I like to rely on voice to split those the eastern and western species.

Hi there,
I have no idea about the meadowlark sp, but the gull appears to be an adult winter Ring-billed Gull.
Regards,
Harry

The main plumage differences are mentioned on the following site: http://www.birds.cornell.edu/crows/mlarkdiff.htm
(I think it's still pretty complicated from that close).

Agree on the gull, and agree on the view of the Meadowlark, although it looks as the malar is yellow like in Western, but one shouldn´t be to sure here!

Appreciate the Gull ID, as for the Meadowlark, I now think its the eastern after listening to the songs online. He sat and sang for us for about 8 minutes before he flew off,

-Drake.

EDIT: UGH, now I am not sure. UGH!!!!!!!!!!

Are you seriously offended Snapper or what? Joking around a bit, doesn´t fool anybody. In the end everyone is coming back to their senses, and we´ll all get our ID, hopefully

Cheers

You see, we can´t be sure of what people mean all of the time here on BF, or anywhere else for that matter. That doesn´t matter as long as we can set things strait. Now I´m gonna set things strait, it was a joke with the Bald, maybe a bad joke, that is to say if Snapper now was seriously offended

There is no way anyone could actually get offended by that unless they were........ um, let's not go there. I'm sure he was just joking about being offended!

Now that must be dry humour Trevor - the ID threads are the ones that cause the most acrimony - well apart from the kid lister ones, the wind farm ones, anything to do with hunting, p****n f******g, whales, farmers etc etc etc - OK lets face it all BF threads these days seem to end in an online punch-up - seems like people prefer it that way !
