There was a book published in 1990 called "The Kestrel" written by Andrew Village and published by Poyser. This book may now be out of print, but you could try Ebay. It gives all the information you seek and more. Hope this helps.

This book I have heard before, but it is hard for me to get one copy.

And Micheal, you are right. I should narrow my question.
In Shanghai city, one kestrel is common. It is Falco tinnunculus. I want some materials about it's habitat selection. It maybe help me find it's habitat in Shanghai in Winter.

Shire Publications Ltd. used to publish a small booklet on The Kestrel but it looks as if they don't do it any more - see their website here

There are other raptor booklets here that you may be interested in - Eagle etc. These books are about 24 pages long and are somewhat more than a field guide but far less than a specialised full book on the subject. You could try to locate one of the Shire Kestrel books using a search engine.

Seasons with the Kestrel is a book written by Gordon Riddle and published by Blandford.The isbn is 0-7137-2243-6.The author has studied these birds for many years.I don't know how easily it may be found , it was first published in '92.

All the book list above, Seasons with the kestrel and other books about kestrel are all in English, and there are not one copy in China. So I got to know all these books, but I cant got one of them.

I just know from one web pages that Common Kestrel (Falco tinnunculus) is the only species resident in the UK, is it true?

Hi Lihu,

Yes, this is the only kestrel resident in Britain, but another species (Lesser Kestrel Falco naumannii) is a very rare visitor from southern Europe (maybe one every 10 years or so).

There are of course several other falcons in Britain: Peregrine (Falco peregrinus), Merlin (F. columbarius), Hobby (F. subbuteo) all breed, while Red-footed Falcon (F. vespertinus) and Gyr Falcon (F. rusticolus) are rare visitors.
