House Sparrow Releases (1 Viewer)

I was debating on which forum to post this in and decided to put it here. I was in Peru in January and I was looking at the House Sparrows there. To me they looked different (brighter, etc) than the House Sparrows I am used to seeing here in Wisconsin, USA. As I recall, the birds that colonized the US and the rest of North America were released in New York City in the mid-1800s. I know there were releases elsewhere, but I believe I have heard that they did not fare as well as the NY birds. In doing a Google search on House Sparrow release dates, it looks like they were introduced to Brazil in the 1870s. I suppose I have several questions.

1. Does anyone know the subspecies of the birds that were released in New York?

2. Were there other House Sparrow releases in South America as well or did the birds there come from the New York birds?

3. What was the fate of this Brazil introduction?

4. I know that House Sparrows have undergone a lot of variation since their introduction. Are the birds I saw in Peru different only because of this variation?

What are your thoughts?

Thanks.
