Derbyshire County Birding (3 Viewers)

Not heard any news today, but the GWE was still present yesterday morning (Tues) at Carr Vale, showing well on the fishing pond before being flushed by a Heron & flying further away onto the middle pond.

Great pics Jon - my rather poor efforts from last Wednesday will follow when I load them (just had a few days in Estonia - some great birds there!).

Ken Dorning is something of a specialist when it comes to finding common birds in albino/partial albino/leucistic plumage.

Ken has kindly sent me another Blackbird from Denby to share. What a cracker!

1st summer female Red foot reported on pager at Breaston.... directions off pager from M1 junc 25 take Bostocks land then go under M1 to Longmoor Lane. Take path w before Breaston sign for 350y to Derby Nomads Way to view horse fields beyond old stables.....NO ACCESS TO FIELDS.

Might get time later to go but I doubt it..... good luck to those who try!

Any idea what time the Swallow was supposed to have been seen at Carsi? The one at Oggie flew South West at 11.10.

Met the guy again yesterday, asked him to send/email a report in via the CBC website, he seemed to already know Roger. Told me he's had experience of red-rumps before in Spain.

Just had excellent views of the Red Footed Falcon over at Long eaton. At times it was perched on fencing 20 feet from where I was standing. It frequents a horse paddock and feeds there. Its been around since last Friday I am told.

Hi Dean,

I'm going to go tomorrow morning any chance you could give us some directions from J 25 of M1 & where I can park.

Thanks in advance.

Im not Dean, but I have just got back ;)

From junction 25, take the minor road to Long Eaton (and the Novohotel). When you get to the end of this, turn right and almost straight away there is a turning under the M1 towards Breaston. Take this and on your right before the village you will see a public f'path. Continue and park in the cemetry. Then walk back to the f'path and go west (or left), NOT down the main path. Walk along here for 400yds and just past the Leyland horse lorry there is a small horse paddock. If the bird is still there then you cant miss it!

I'll post again later after I've had some grub but here are a few shots of the Red Foot Falcon. If I can get these from my crappy little camera then the big lense brigade must have some corkers.

Hi Neil,

I parked on the side of the road on the grass (plenty of room) and almost opposite the footpath sign on other side of road. The footpath sign is just before you reach the cemetry entrance. When you walk past the footpath sign turn almost immediately left and just keep going until you reach the horse paddock. There should be a few birders about.

Hmm interesting. He claimed a second one on Tuesday and posted on the CBC webiste but didn't leave much in the way of detail. The report was then lifted from the website. Apparently he has claimed one or maybe more at Oggie recently too.

I had a Little Egret yesterday morning at Carsington. I was in the Wildlife Centre when I saw it flying North towards Sheepwash. Despite searching I couldn't re-locate it later in the day. It must have been hiding well as it was seen yesterday tea time and has been seen again this morning in Brown Ale bay near P.Stanley hide.

Also seen yesterday was a Shelduck/Mallard hybrid, female Peregrine, 2 Sparrohawks, 3 LRP, Comm Sand, 4+ Oycs, Comm Tern, 2 Sedge Warblers, c5 Redstarts inc 3+ juvs and a Greenfinch (rare for Carsi).

I was told yesterday that the falcon was not seen for about 3 hours yesterday morning after it was initially seen so who knows it may still be about.

Yes, I know somebody who turned up around 09.30 but didn't see it until after 12.00.
