Nikon 8x32 SE review - vs. Habicht and Swarovision (1 Viewer)

Thanks Brock

I really hope these are a good match for me. I think this model would have a decent chance of retaining good resale value.

Now they are discontinued they probably will hold their value. Before, the 12x SE was steepest SE discounted when sold used. I've seen the 12X SE for sale on Amart listed in excellent condition for ~ $550-$600. Bought my first pair for $525 on Amart and second for $550 or $575. Btw, the SE doesn't take a standard tripod adapter, if you want to use them on a tripod, you need a special Nikon adapter, which costs about $35.

Interesting to note that my first pair of 12x50 SEs had a listed FOV of 5.3*, the second was 5*.

They will be the first I've seen. If I could, I would go back to the recent past and buy the 10X42, but maybe these will work for me. I'm very interested to see how they compare to the BP.

I`ll be keen to read your thoughts, will this be your first SE experience ?

I do hope you enjoy the 12x50, they are a very nice optic, and there
are few others available in that size to compare with.

I use mine almost everyday as they are my long distance ones to use
from viewing from my house. I am in a rural area, and like them for
longer distance viewing.

The 12x50 SE is lightweight for that size, and is handholdable, but when
tripod mounted is very stable and has that quality flat field view to the
edges. The SE's are all very good.

Be sure to let us know how you like them.

Sure thing Jerry. I really hope to get a lifetime binocular with these.

Re CA and the 12x SE.
I use them for astronomy.
When i first got them a few years back, i was surprised at the CA during the day. I found it diasappeared when i got focus set exactly.
I do prefer my 8x and 10x SE for the day time, and find the 10x to be an excellent dual use glass.

Goodbye SEs

I agree that these were wonderful binoculars. I have recently retired mine with the purchase of the Zeiss Victory 8x32 T FLs. I do not find them as comfortable as the Nikons in the hand but they are their match in every other way. I have not used the Nikons enough to bother keeping them and finally decided to list them on ebay.

Hope I did not violate any forum rules here with my first post.

Welcome to Bird Forum DOSU,

I suggest that you might consider keeping it as a backup binocular, at least until you can get new eye cups for it. People who do not wear glasses might not be interested in buying it otherwise. Try calling Nikon USA about it. They aren't expensive.

Doug, are you sure you want to get rid of them? You may regret it, and they´re now irreplaceable. It´s always handy to have a good back-up pair for the kitchen window, or for a friend, and the Zeiss 8x32 won´t give exactly the same type of image as the SE´s. Wonderful though the Zeiss are, they don´t handle flare as well as the SE, they don´t have a 3D-porro image, and they´re not flat-field. (They are however waterproof, although I didn´t like the handling on mine, I found the recess under the body where my thumb naturally went was too deep and made handling uncomfortable.) If you can´t get eyecups, a quick trip to a DIY store, or a bike shop, will provide you with a bit of rubber tubing to rig up your own!

:t: Finding a replacement may prove difficult if you find yourself with sellers remorse.

I'd offered mine for sale on this forum last year with no takers. Too bad because I'm keeping them now! ;)
