My first Adder of the year today, a male basking in a traditional local spot.

Absolutely spring-like out there, Peacock fluttering by as well.

John

That is an early riser.
I suspect that's the adder equivalent of having to get up early in the morning for a wee before going back to bed for a bit.

I had been thinking of checking one or two local spots myself but decided not since it was a bit too early. Think I'll give it until March sometime to have reasonable chance.

Early rising Adder pic: perhaps its not so much a trip to the bathroom as getting a cuppa and taking it back to the duvet.....

Are snakes active after dusk? I'm sure one shot across the a303 near Stockbridge last night, in front of my car. It was pretty dark, headlights on

I'll skip the jokes about snakes with headlights.... I expect they are in summer but I'd be very surprised at this time of year and even more so at one moving vey quickly. How about a Weasel, Stoat or Polecat seen badly?

John

Weasel, and shadow from the headlights maybe, with a bit of headlight bounce giving the shadow a crawling effect.. one heck of an illusion though if it was.
