Volcano or Scintillant? (1 Viewer)

SeanKP

Fledgling
Hi all you good folk.

I've posted a picture in my gallery (click here) taken at Savegre Mountain Lodge, Costa Rica which I'm pretty sure is either a Volcano or a Scintillant hummingbird but I'm not sure which. Anybody able to tell me what it is?

Many thanks!

Sean

Hi Sean, Judging by the rufous flanks and rufous outer tail feathers I would say the bird is a Scintillant Hummingbird. This species was much more numerous than Volcano Hummingbird at the Savegre feeders when I was there last month too.

Hi James

Many thanks for that. I know I definitely took pictures of both scintillant and volcano but, because I was left with only one card after the theft of my camera bag, I did do a lot of deleting to make room for new shots and I fear that I deleted all my volcano shots. Doh!
