Redwing - odd facial growth? (1 Viewer)

This was one of a handful of redwings that stopped in my mum's garden while I was there over the weekend. It has some odd grey lump/mark under its eye. It might've just been coincidence but it seemed to be away from the other birds the whole time it was there. I was curious if anyone knew what it was:
