Ebay scope auction scam (1 Viewer)

Bid on a Leica APO 77 scope on Ebay and was sent a dodgy second chance offer yesterday after the auction finished.

E-mail was confirmed as a spoof by Ebay very good copy of official e-mail.

Watch out as similar auctions are still present - scopes seem to be one of their targets, possibly binoculars as well.

Generally: -

Buy it now of £700 on an e-mail - not official Ebay Buy It Now service.

High value item - but still below normal Ebay selling price.

Various sellers, generally in London area, but all have bought items and not sold any items previously.

Same photographs used by different sellers.

All have other high value items on similar e-mail Buy It Now - Hi-Fi seperates etc.

Have reported the ones I've seen to Ebay, but they appear as fast as they remove them.

Thanks to all who have contributed their experiences on here, I've gained some very useful tips for buying my own scope.

Be careful.

Cheers,
Harry.

Nice to be here, just helping others, I've had some good advice from Birdforum members.

Much appreciated.

I've had another spoof second chance offer today though so Ebay is far from safe yet.

Both were on Leica APO 77 scopes, but I see from another member's post that binoculars have been targeted too.

I bought elsewhere, not losing my scope money!

Cheers,
Harry.
