Confirmation on IDs - Ticlio, Peru (1 Viewer)

BirdsPeru

Alejandro Tabini
Just took this pictures today and would like some confirmation about the IDs.

14254 and 14256 thinking of a Puna Ground-Tyrant based on brownish crown and white superciliar just to the rear of the eye. Small bird.

14299 and 14304 thinking of a White-fronted Ground-Tyrant this bird was a big Ground Tyrant and based on the white just being infront of the eye.

14422 thinking of a D-orbigny's Chat-Tyrant because of the dark color or the upper parts, rufous on the lower part except the lowest part that is white. Also the two lines that surrounds the crown.

Thanks in advance for your confirmation or correction.

Alejandro

Alejandro,

Yep, I'd agree with those identifications based on my limited knowledge - happy to be told otherwise tho'

Nice pictures.

Cheers,

Mark

Excellent photos. All the Ground-tyrants are White-fronted. Note the white patch on the wings - there are only two Peruvian species of GT's with that: White-fronted & Ochre-naped (it tends to be less distinct in latter, esp. in worn individuals). Note also the long wings which almost reach the tail-tip, again a good pointer in these species. The faint brownish tinge to the crown is fairly typical of White-fronted, although often hard to see. For comparison the smaller Puna lacks the white on the wing, is slightly browner overall, has shorter wings & it has a much narrower white eye-brow.
