Just a short note which I hope will be helpful. The Schelde Estuary area is one we used to visit most winters but we just realised that 15 years had passed since the last visit!

So, four nights booked B&B and the Hull - Rotterdam ferry we seemed all set for a goose-fest. With some pre-trip advice from Nathan "the Smew" Alblas on this forum we were ready for a good trip visiting old and new sites.

The highlight of the first day, and the whole trip, was Prunjepolder which was staggering - the islands were truly covered in birds, shoulder to shoulder, causing petticoat approval, "This is what we came for."

Weather, as expected was "variable" from clear skies to pouring rain but only to be expected at this time of the year.

Nathan met us for one day and we enjoyed his company and benefited from his local knowledge - a good birder and a nice young man even if he didn't deliver the Smew.

Most of the birding and photography was done from the car but the area is well recommended if you feel the need for a break from British rain in the winter.
