I have birding Grafham Water (Cambs) as my patch since 1997, and the Paxton Pits birds feed here during the day, before roosting back at Paxton Pits. These "white-headed" birds are actually quite frequent, especially as spring nears. Most of the Paxton colony is now though to contain carbo and sinesis x carbo hybrids. Yes the gular patch is variable, and a white-headed appearance no longer means the bird is a sinesis (depsite what most observers still think!).
