Is this a little flock of American Goldfinch?? Was rather unexpected to see them in the snow...

Certainly is. Nothing else resembles them. In Alberta birds sometimes stayed for the winter, I imagine its the same for your province.

I don't think I ever saw Am. Goldfinch in Alberta at any other time actually.
