Today was a brilliant day - one of my best birding days.
It started off with a flock of 25 Whimbrel at Picton, Pembrokeshire. There were many large flocks of hirundines, which are always nice to see, and there were 2 Swifts with them (my first this summer). I also saw Linnets - a bird I haven't seen for many years and also a bird on my personal 'target list for 2013'.
I then headed to St. Davids Head where I saw the Western Subalpine Warbler and the Woodchat Shrike - two 'lifers' for me. I also saw a full-adult Gannet at eye level and watched it spear into the sea - amazing.
Later on, I went to Dowrog Common, St. Davids, and saw a Short-eared Owl (my favourite bird) and had excellent views of 2 Cuckoos. I also saw Chiffchaffs, Willow Warblers and Grasshopper Warblers. An excellent day in bright sunshine.
