Hi all, recently went to NYC for a week and did a bit of birding in the park. This being the second time birding there I knew most of what I saw, but still haven't been able to identify this yet if anyone is able to help?

Think this is one of the offspring of Pale Male, the well known Red Tailed Hawk. (You can see the belly band between the legs.)
The three fledglings have had a rough time this year, because of their diet. Rats abound in Central Park and are susceptible to various anti coagulant poisons. Unfortunately, the young hawks catch and eat the worst hit.
Of the three fledglings this year, one is known dead, one has gone missing, but was in distress the night before and the last one went through rehabilitation and is currently hanging around the Guggenheim.

Thanks for the info - for the record this one was seen on 24th Aug in the Ramble area. Caught it flying under the bridge by the waterfall and was lucky that it landed on a nearby tree on the other side.
