Hi there,
At the end of November, a bird considered to be the first Blyth´s P. for Spain was found near the coast. There´s a couple of pics of the bird in "rare birds in spain" website. I don´t like the median coverts design for Blyth´s, looking more Richard´s. The bird has been seen by many competent birders and ided as Blyth´s. Bill shape looks good for Blyth´s but I´m not sure about those median coverts. What do you think?

hmmn, with tonnes of caution I'd say they look ok to me for Blyth's, possibly wouldn't expect Richards to show the rounded centres on the covs to such extent (albeit there's a clear spike) ... but I need a lesson in overlap

minutia aside it feels more Blyth's to me also (though that's worth little with pics)

Surely looks like a Richard´s on new adult, triangular, median covert pattern, and the strong buffish tips. The dark center looks rather clear-cut at the sides though, more in line with Blyth´s, which makes it difficult to ID it, from this single image for sure. Look at this Richard´s:

from Denmark on 2nd Nov. 2000. Look at the new ad covert!
