Great info, thanks. Though I dont think the Athlon Optics Midas ED 8×42 is available in the UK, still an interesting review.

I think for most people, the binoculars listed would work just fine, as the share of optics obsessives is small.
The only aspect that is difficult for such a review to capture is the product quality control, whether these samples are representative or selected specimens. The feedback we get here at BF is very helpful in addressing that issue, so hopefully more users will share their experiences with these.
