Good Florida Gulf Coast birding sites? (1 Viewer)

Hello,
We are going on a family holiday to Florida in the last week of May, staying in the Port Charlotte area (specifically Punta Gorda). It's mainly a family holiday but we are hoping to do short (up to an hour or so away) trips to local sites each day and a couple of trips slightly further away, maybe an hour or two. It would be great if anyone has any suggestions for some good local sites and a couple of further away ones that we could try. I would particularly like to see some warblers and maybe some waders so if there are any good places locally that would be brilliant. Thanks in advance. Nick

Hope this is not too late for you. Besides eBird check out Peace River Audubon Society's website, they have a good birding section with a list of hotspots which include directions, habitat descriptions, species you are likely to find. Combine this list with eBird searches for up to date info on what birders are seeing and you can plan many more trips than you will have time to go on! They also have scheduled field trips that are open to non-members. For the longer trips car pooling is available.
