Hi.

Is it safe to determine that this is indeed an RT pipit rather than a Meadow, based solely on the striped upper tail feathers?

In general - is it always a clear-cut id feature to rely on when deciding between these two species?

The streaking to the rump I believe would be in favour of RTP over Mipit.

Is that streaking as we usually know it, looks like black centred feathers to me?

According to Collins the rump of Mipit is unmarked...

The bird's alive and kicking. Got an unusual angle on it, as it was right below a bridge.

If you meant the rump (rather than the uppertail coverts which are often streaked in Meadow pipit too) than the answer is yes. Indeed your bird is a 100% certain RTP.

Yes - indeed I was referring to the rump and used the wrong terminology.
Thank you for this correction, and sorry if I caused any confusion.

I also see now that KenM has already corrected me in his first reply.
