The monthly theme challenge for April 2006 is ‘Birds and water'.

This theme proved very popular when previously run and hopefully will be once again.

The theme is further defined as being a photograph of a bird/birds interacting with water. This can be of birds bathing, in the rain, feeding in water, reflections in water, swimming and diving etc. As long as a bird or birds are invloved and the presence of water is in view and obvious.

The rules must be adhered to in order to avoid disqualification. The Moderators decision is final.

Rules –

1. Entry to have been taken in the last twelve months.
2. Date taken to be included in the entry - must at least include month and year.
3. Entry to be uploaded between April 1st-21st
midnight (BST).
4. Your entry must contain a bird or birds that are obviously involved with water.

5. The bird must be wild and can be of any species.
6. Location taken to be included and must include at least the county/state and country.
7. One entry per member.
8. Only minor image adjustment is permitted, such as cropping, sharpening, contrast, and levels. The photo must not be otherwise greatly manipulated ie. objects should not be added / removed in order to enhance the shot - no composite images.
9. Once uploaded a photo is classed as an entry and cannot be replaced by another shot. However, you have until the closing date / time of this competition to ensure that your photo meets criteria.
10. The entry must be your own work and not previously submitted in a competition on this site.
11. The bird's common name mustbe given - though please add the scientific too!
12. Entries to be uploaded directly by entrants to the
Monthly Photo Competitions Gallery.

A voting booth will be posted after the 20th.

Please note 30 entries will be selected for addition to the voting booth for members to vote upon - entries not included in the voting booth will be moved to their appropriate geographic forum.

Comments on entries are permitted.

Any queries about this months competition, please post below.

Wow, the number, variety, and quality of the 2006 Birds and Water entries is really awesome. I've commented on several, and many more deserve praise. I hope I can get to all of them before they have to come down. This theme always provides one of the most exciting exhibits to view, and toughest to vote.

one again I didnt get voted into the final entry. Bah! Beaten by yet another gull amongst other things. Guess its all down to judges interpretation and not quality of photographs B :)

It was certainly tough narrowing the entries down to 30. There were so many well taken photos and good theme interpretations, but we got there in the end. Some very good entries however were ruled out for giving no details of geographical location at all which continues to be the main infringement of the rules. 'Backyard' or just 'Garden' or 'Wood' maybe good enough for Habitat but simply isn't enough for Geographical Location espeically with so many quality entries.

The Voting Booth will be posted later this evening (BST).
