Hi all, this lens is for sale 2nd hand on a shop website, would this be the
latest model? Used Nikon Nikkor 500mm F4 AF-S VR

When I search for new ones Nikon Nikkor 500mm F4 AF-S G ED VR is the model i find, are these two different lenses?

Confused Steve

I think there is only one version of the 500 f/4 VR lens. You can tell if it is the current 'VR II' type if it has a three position switch on it A/M--M/A--M. I believe only the latest VR lenses have the 'tripod' mode also...

Oh, yeah, the 'G' nomenclature means there is no aperture ring, so I think all the VR super-teles are 'G' lenses.

Nice lens, to be sure,

Jim
