This bird was on Fungerola Beach, Malaga, Spain last weekend. It was darker than Yellow Legged Gulls present but paler than the palest Graellsii present (intermedius lbbgs also present). Can Graellsii ever be as pale as this or is it possibly a YLG X LBBG hybrid? Spread wing wasn't seen.
All thoughts appreciated.

Hello Derek!

As we can´t see the open wings and that the only different character I can actually see for sure on these images compared to the other two, if my assumption that these are also graellsii is correct, is the paler looking upperparts (Kodak Grey Scale 8-10(11) for graellsii ac. to 'Gulls') Therefor I´d say we can assume for sure that it is a LBBG (graellsii).

Hello Jan,

Many thanks. The other birds in the pic are Graellsii, good to know that this bird is within range for Graellsii.

All the best

Derek
