Where in the world am I? Bird Game! (1 Viewer)

I have been thinking of a potential bird game and thought this one would be a fun one to play: where in the world am I?

How to Play:

I post a real checklist of birds from anywhere in the world, with date and time given to take into account seasonality. I'll provide some background information if possible/available.

Whoever guesses the correct country where these observations took place gets one point.

Whoever guesses the correct state/region/province/department where these observations took place gets three points.

Whoever can guess the exact birding hotspot (city park, national park, wetland, road, lodge, etc) gets six points.

I'm thinking of giving everyone 24 hours to try and guess the answer. We'll see how it goes and how popular it is beyond that. So here goes nothing:

This one is tricky to narrow down - so many of these birds are Australian endemics, but wide-ranging ones! I couldn't see any "key" species in here; I can say "not" a few places (e.g. Kakadu and the east coast, 'cause they don't have Black Honeyeaters) but haven't a clue about the specific location.

However, I'll guess "southern Queensland" for a general area.

The checklist was made about 10-12 hours driving distance inland from Brisbane, so would fall around south-central Queensland. The exact location was Bowra Station just outside Cunnamulla. Fantastic place for birding to get a lot of the inland endemics. I dipped on two key species at this site -- Hall's Babbler and Grey Falcon.

ClarkWGriswold gets one point for getting the country right first, and Peter C. gets three points for getting the correct state first.

Scoreboard:

The Falcon: 6
Welsh Peregrine: 6
Peter C.: 3
ClarkWGriswold: 1
Cee Jay: 1

Let's jump continents again...this time not one of my own checklists for a change:

Date of Observation: July 22, 2004
# of species: 14

Northern Gannet (Morus bassanus) 270
Great Cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo) 64
European Shag (Phalacrocorax aristotelis) 44
White-tailed Eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla) 1
Merlin (Falco columbarius) 1
Black-legged Kittiwake (Rissa tridactyla) 130
Mew Gull (Larus canus) 22
Great Black-backed Gull (Larus marinus) 9
Great Skua (Stercorarius skua) 2
Razorbill (Alca torda) 26
Black Guillemot (Cepphus grylle) 300
Atlantic Puffin (Fratercula arctica) 280
Northern Wheatear (Oenanthe oenanthe) 1
European Greenfinch (Chloris chloris) 6

I think this list is interesting. Some wild card birds on this checklist.

I'll go out on a limb and guess somewhere from Norway - the island of Runde.

(By the way, Carlos, I should have had that last one in the bag - I've actually been to Cunnamulla! But we were just passing through, didn't really stop for birds. Not surprising though - we'd spent the previous night in Charleville (just a couple of hours' drive north) and that was an excellent site.)

Peter C., you nailed this one! Yes, the island of Runde in Norway is correct.

I thought the Cunnamulla area was very good birding, but I visited on a rather dry year so I missed out on several target species and did not see the hoped for spectacle of large parrot/cockatoo flocks. Still saw lots of great birds, though. Look forward to returning to Australia.

Scoreboard:

Peter C.: 9
The Falcon: 6
Welsh Peregrine: 6
ClarkWGriswold: 1
Cee Jay: 1
