RSPB Public Christmas Walk
The group made a radical decision this year to hold the annual walk along the North Beach at Lowestoft. Other years have always been Oulton Broad & Lake Lothing which will always produce a better selection of birds. However a good forty or so members of the public attended but were nearly all bin less.

The sea wall produced a few Larus Gulls & the pools on the Denes produced 24 Turnstones & two Oystercatchers. At Ness Point two Rock Pipits & three Purple Sandpipers were seen. Some of the group saw a 2nd Winter Med Gull fly overhead but many were unimpressed. Hamilton Dock was birdless.

That was about it. After the walk Mike D a BF member & I visited Oulton Broad & lake Lothing where the birding was much better. The Drake Red crested Pochard was showing well in Leathes Ham & was a life tick for Mike. Other wildfowl were two Pochard, a few Wigeon, Gadwall & Shoveler & 15 Greylag dropped in from the east. Along Lake Lothing we saw three Shag, Three Kingfishers a few Turnstones & a Sanderling. On Oulton Broad the female Scaup was seen.
