Pipit. Kazakhstan.
Please help id Pipit shot in Kyzylkum desert (South Kazakhstan) in April 12 this year. No ideas. Bird is Water Pipit - sized bird. Observed in the flock with Water Pipits.

1. very bright Tawny Pipit
2. Long-billed Pipit Any other ideas? What about Blyth's Pipit (Anthus godlewskii)?

Doesn't the moustachial stripe rule out Long-billed? The covert centres also seem too bold.

You're bird appears to have a dark lore, which Blyth's shouldn't have. Though I must add that I have no experience of this species in the field.

Like Gerd, I think it's time to add Long-billed pipit to the Kazakh list...

Some Indian birds also look very similar to our bird, but have much larger bill.

My only experience of Long-billed pipit is what I've seen on a web trawl and the illustrations in Collins. The cinnamon-buff belly is surely a good feature..don't see that on any other contenders?..also the head pattern looks pretty good..and the diffuse greater covert bar also supports. Can't see a combination of these features on anything else?
