Tice's Meadow and Tongham GP, Surrey (4 Viewers)

Brent Goose on the meadow this evening with Canada's & Wheatear per Graham.
Interesting, wonder if it's the same bird seen a few weeks back?

John.

John, still there this afternoon according to Rich H along with Reed Warbler and Whitethroat. I on the otherhand am awaiting the dishwasher repair man and cannot get out.

Yep I saw it this morning Rich & texted Mr H, this bird appears to be a first winter judging by the browner flanks & upperparts. Also nice male Wheatear & LRP on the meadow, first Whitethroats & Reed Warbler of the Spring also noted.
More heavy rain forecast later today so at least the meadow's being topped up!

At 20:25 the Brent Goose stopped feeding as some of the Canada Geese flew off North and the rest moved to the flood. It became very alert and finally flew off South at 20:33 (Hoping it flew North to get a Hampshire sighting!)

If it keep going in the direction it flew it would have flown over Frensham Ponds. Could it have roosted there?

No new waders seen between the showers.

The meadow looks good for my 'Beddington style' watch in 7 days time.
Kevin

No sign of the Brent early this morning, at least 3 Reed Warblers singing, 1 Whitethroat, 1 Willow Warbler, 2 Chiffchaff, 2 Blackcap, Bullfinch, 4 LRP, 1 Little Egret, 4+ Skylark, & Wheatear.

John.

Not much to add to John's tally although great to walk in the spring sunshine and catch up with some year birds: Reed Warbler and Whitethroat. Now that the meadow is well fenced off it would be good to see the LRPs breed on the Wheatear field.

Very similar tally this morning to yesterday & was nice to catch up with Rich S. Blackcaps seemed to be everywhere especially at Tongham, no sign of any Sedge Warblers at Tongham, but at least 6 singing birds combined at both sites. Whitethroats present in increasing no's, male Wheatear still on the meadow, 3 Common Terns, 2 LRP, Little Egret over the river, 4+ Skylark, Stock Dove, & Lapwing also noted.

On the return from Seale and Totford Hatch I dropped back in. Nothing else of note although there were plenty of Swallows and Sand Martins over the meadow. The view from the Water Works entrance is perhaps worth checking out; it offers good views of the flooded meadow.

pm today 6 wheatears 1 of them greenland L R P 6 . Working are starting to fill with water but a long way to go. Meadow looking good for greenshank. I hope.

At last some wader action! 4 blackwits on the meadow this evening inc 2 summer plumage adults found by Rich H. Cheers Rich!

After a wet long but perfect day with Rich S at Portland had a look at Tices and found 4 BlackTailed Godwits in the meadow. Still present roosting at 20:50.
Rain is helping to fill the workings and the meadow looks at its best ever at this time of year..

I have to congratulate and thank Kevin Duncan for setting up Tices website which should be up and running soon and allow all recording from Birds Butterflies ect the site is [email protected] .

Hi Rich,

That's an e-mail address, will someone, (Kev?), be receiving these e-mails & then collating the sightings? Or is an actual web site/blog for Tices Bird Group being planned?

Cheers,

John.

Hi John,

It will be a blog and will cover all wildlife/plants etc not just birds. The email address will be for reporting these sightings and birds if the person does not use Surrey Birders.

Should have some posts put together by the 3rd May. Then I was go back in the past to add memorable sightings.

Anybody know if the Blk-tailed Godwits were seen this morning (Thur 26th) or is just a date error on Surrey Bird Club 'latest sightings'

Kevin

Got soaked this afternoon but some reasonable birds seen - female wheatear on the meadow along with 10 sand Martins. Good selection of warblers including 3 each of whitethroat & reed, 2 blackcap, & the first garden warbler of the spring. 2 lrp noisily chasing each other around, 3 common terns over the workings, & 2 probable arctics over the meadow.raptors seen were 2 buzzard, kestrel , & sparrowhawk.
