This grouse was seen on Dec 17, 2017 in Manitoba, not far from Winnipeg.
The location is between a wooded area and open area.
I am not very strong with grouse. It looks more like a Ruffed to me: stocky and heavy-patterned unlike Sharp-tailed which is usually slim and finely streaked. Though I do not see any crest and not sure if there is a black band on its tail.
