Robin (1 Viewer)

Can anyone tell me please when a first winter Robin gets its red breast. John

A 1st winter plumaged Robin already has the breast colour - the most obvious difference from adult are the more pronounced buff tipped greater coverts. Only juvenile birds lack the breast colour - I think that by September all or most will be in 1st winter plumage.

Don´t see the connection of this thread to this subforum?
Nor is the bird a Robin of any age.

I think John (understandably) thought that ringers would be more likely to know moulting times. We don't need to be so organised - its not a military drill ;)

Are you sure its a Robin - looks long tailed but that could be due to missing or broken flight feathers..?

Hi Simon,
I mentioned Robin but had ? that's why I put the bird pictures on here, thinking that ringers would know, when a 1st winter Robin would get a Red Breast. This bird does not appear to have a Red-breast. May move the pictures over to Bird I,D.

Regards, John
