Northumbrian Birding (2 Viewers)

Books like Raptors of the World take the full range of the bird into account. Goshawk in Southern Spain are probably on eggs now and Gos in Scandinavia won't start displaying until mid March early April. Even the difference in weather between Northumberland and Southern England, will make a difference to when birds display.

Leazes Park

Had a short walk thru early afternoon. Some time since I,ve been here. Rather suprised to see 4 Bramblings in the tall trees beside the tennis court pavilion. Didn't know they favoured towns much.
Also a GSW - no suprise there.
See that Canada Geese are now present - havn't seen those here before either. Have they been here long?
Lovely afternoon, more like April than Feb.

GW Teal was showing well on the south west shore of Woodhorn Flash at 12.30 pm today.

There was a flock of gulls on the east side of the pool at the end of Summerhouse Lane;

and within the numerous BHGs and the few CGs were two Med Gulls inc. one with a near perfect black hood. Quite a stunner until the flock was spooked and the birds headed south.

And by the way, Bothal Pond was almost devoid of any birds. No coots, cormorants nor gulls. Zilch (except for a guy fly fishing the south shore)!

Managed to squeeze in a bit of birding on Sat and got the Med Gull at Newbiggin (Thanks to Rokermartin) and the Goosanders at Killingworth (Thanks to Brian FM). Went South of the river to Thornleigh Wood this morning and got GSW, Nuthatch, Jays Fox and red kite. Also had 2 otters on Friday, one at Druridge Pool and one at East Chevington. Report and pics will follow when I catch up on my sleep.

Can be good for Warblers also Buntings and Finch flocks had a White Linnet two years ago

Water Pipit

Water Pipit still at St Mary's Island on Sunday. It was on large rocks and the sandy bank at the back of the small beach to the left of the causeway to
the island. Plenty of Rock Pips around too but it stands out well from these birds. Who knows - it may stay longer and turn pink!
