Tuesday August 31, 2004:
45 STELLER'S JAYS, three NORTHERN FLICKERS, one WESTERN TANAGER, a PURPLE FINCH and 13 CALIFORNIA QUAIL were seen in the 700 block of Ermineskin Avenue in Parksville.
Sunday August 29,:
Fourteen Sunday birders met at Columbia Beach, near French Creek. Highlights of the walk were three PARASITIC JAEGERS, one SEMIPALMATED PLOVER, three OSPREY that entertained us with their fishing techniques and one RINGED-BILLED GULL in with a flock of CALIFORNIA GULLS.

: RARE BIRD ALERT:
THE BLACK TURN was seen again on top of the Weeping Willow Tree at Fairwinds Golf Course near the driving range in Nanoose bay.
BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, SEMI-PALMATED PLOVERS, GREATER YELLOWLEGS and SPOTTED SANDPIPERS were seen at the Englishman River Estuary.
BLACK TURNSTONES, SEMI-PALMATED PLOVERS, MEW GULLS, BONAPART'S GULLS, PACIFIC and COMMON LOONS, GREEN-WINGED TEAL, and two FRANKLINS GULLS were seen fro the viewing tower at Qualicum Beach.
Friday August 27:
:RARE BIRD ALERT:
The BLACK TURN first seen on August 25 was seen again to day at the same location on Fairwinds Golf Course at the Willow Tree.
One OLIVED -SIDED FLYCATCHER, one RED-BREASTED SAPSUCKER and five SWAINSON'S THRUSH were seen along the Cable Bay Trail in Cedar.
One AMERICAN COOT was spotted at Buttertubs Marsh in Nanaimo.
An AMERICAN BITTERN was seen along Meadowlark Trail in Nanaimo.
One female BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK was sighted along Boundry Crescent in Nanaimo.
Thursday August 26:
One female BLUE GROUSE was seen along Nottingham Drive in Nanaimo.
Wednesday August 25:
:RARE BIRD ALERT:
A BLACK TERN was seen at the Fairwinds Golf Course between the driving range and the clubhouse on top of a Weeping Willow Tree.
Three LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS were seen at Rascals along Kaye Road in Parksville.
Three COMMON NIGHAWKS were seen above Peterson Road in the Rivers Edge subdivision in Parksville.
Two large flocks of SURF SCOTERS were seen at the foot of Gladstone Way on the west coast of Denman Island.
Five WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS in with a flock of BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS were seen on the east coast of Denman Island between Fillongley and Gravelly Bay ferry slip.
Over 25 BLACK SWIFT, OVER 40 VAUX SWIFT and three NORTHERN SHOVELLERS were spotted at Craig Bay Estates in Parksville.
A BROWN PELICAN was seen at Roberts Bay near the Victoria Airport.
Tuesday August 24, 2004:
One HUTTON'S VIREO, two PILEATED WOODPECKERS and one RED-BREASTED SAPSUCKER were seen along Bay Road in Nanoose Bay.
ABOUT 200 CALIFORNIA GULLS were seen at Pachena Bay near Courtney.
Twelve ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLERS were sighted at Cottle Lake in Lindley Valley.
A PILEATED WOODPECKER has been coming to suet feeders along West Garden Road in Qualicum Beach.
