Hi all, this is a repost of my first post over in the spotting scope threads.I was never sure on posting it there...

"Thank you all for the knowledge I've gathered so far on these forums, on binos, monoculars, and bats. This forum is very impressive. Congratulations to the active members that make this place "The" place it is.

I recently bought this monocular.......
http://www.vortexoptics.com/product/...8x36-monocular
very happy with it, or should I say very impressed with it, as my previous monoculars were of the cheapy tasco type. I bought it for 119$ Can. at this storefront....
http://eagleopticscanada.stores.yahoo.net/
which is part of....
http://guelph.wbu.com/

It's best if your well informed on what you want when dealing with the staff. You will prolly be informing them.
My question. Having just bought this monocular I of course see Zen Ray has a 8x42 out.....
http://www.zen-ray.com/shop/monoculars/monohd8x42.html
Anyone have experience with it?
Hoping future monocular posts are here
J

EDIT HERE...
Added: Placement of this thread, here or in bino?
Please move as see fit.
Thanks J"

Tried alot of monoculars including the one you have. I finally settled on the Zeiss 8x20. Best one I found. Excellent optics just like their binoculars. The optics on the less expensive ones just didn't cut it for me when I am used to top optics in my binoculars I really notice the difference on the cheaper monoculars too.

I assume the monocular is based on the ZRS optically. Knowing the image quality that the Zen Ray ZRS produces, which is very close to the ED2, the monocular should produce the same quality image minus one barrel.

How many monocular are available that have Dielectric Prism Coating?

Close focus 16.4 feet VS ZRS 6 feet.

The ZRS needs a clip like the Vortex. Perhaps something removable would be great. An optional hand strap would be nice too!

I haven't tried the Zen Ray monocular but it looks interesting and you are right that the optics in a monocular mirror the binocular minus one barrel and the Zen Ray optics are very good and with a 42mm aperture it probably would perform well and you would not have to worry about hard focusing like some of the Zen Ray binoculars have exhibited.

Ii ordered the Zen Ray monocular in the 8x42 . It sounds like a good deal and it is cheap! You get a case, strap and lens covers with it. I will compare it to my Zeiss 8x20 and if I don't like it I will return it to Zen Ray. Watch this thread for a review and comparison between the two
