South Georgia (1 Viewer)

Amazing place! The whole of South Georgia is spectacular. Visited on a relief/resupply stop but was unlucky wi the swell at Bird Island so didn't get off. Stiil, the view was great: every inch of the island is covered in wildlife. Got my only views of Snowy Sheathbill and a flyover South Georgia Pintail there, plus heaps of SG Pipit. I wouldn't say the Antarctic continent pales in comparison! Completely different in terms of landscape, wildlife, experience etc.

Ah good memories! :t:

Yes, South Georgia is truly stupendous in every sense – and will get even better following the eradication of rats and reindeer. It's a pity that most expedition cruises only visit for a few days, but (perhaps understandably) most of the ordinary punters want to spend more time around the Antarctic Peninsula. On our once-in-a-lifetime trip, I remember some of the plebs questioning whether it had been worth such a long detour when there were plenty of penguins in Antarctica anyway!
